Happy birthday to me! (An old and glorious song.)

A former roommate, whose coolness is almost entirely unparalleled, gave me a MathNet DVD for my birthday. It features an oddly cheerful Pat Tuesday rather than Kate Monday. George Frankly is the same. I'm sure you'll all be glad to know that my long-lasting love affair with him has been rekindled.

My vague memory that MathNet is geeky, not just for mathematicians, but in all possible ways, appears to be correct. Pat and George are trying to catch a jewel thief. The Chief is convinced that the thief is Archie Leech, the playboy. About thirty seconds later after we hear about the chief's suspicions, George says, with the delivery that keeps anyone from accusing MathNet of subtlety, "We're off to catch a thief*."

*Thus I conclude that one of Archibald Leich's books was titled To Catch A Thief.

ETA 5 MILLION: Or apparently it's a reference to a Hitchcock movie. So much for my pretensions to literary knowledge.

It also features the phrase "you irascible scrapple of fol-de-rol", which is noteworthy in and of itself.

ETA: Lady Esther Aster Astute, of Northern California (and who lives on the Esther Aster Astute Estate), is having some trouble with the concept of the trash can. "Whyever would you want to keep trash?" she asks.

ETA2: ...I want to write MathNet episodes now...

There's an idea for fanfic.

And happy birthday to you!

I am silly, because I remembered to observe your birthday last week when you were here and then forgot about it when it actually happened. *hits self in head*

So is it just the one episode? You never answered my question.

Happy Birthday! Justin did mention that it was your birthday today, when I saw him yesterday. Never hurts to have an organized event to remind people. :)

a MathNet DVD

That is deeply and truly awesome. You are a lucky birthday person.

I actually remember seeing the episode you describe. I had not, however, remembered the phrase "you irascible scrapple of fol-de-rol." I will have to use that one sometime.

*Thus I conclude that one of Archibald Leich's books was titled To Catch A Thief.

I think it might be a Cary Grant reference: he starred in Hitchcock's To Catch A Thief and his birth name was Archibald Leach.

groan. indeed.

(scarily enough, I'd read the stuff...)

many happy returns of the day and a wonderful year!

(hmmm... upon further thought... maybe insert some gematria and an appropriate storyline for a fantabulous Purimshpiel....?)

Happy birthday!

Dude, MathNet! I'm partial to the Kate Monday series, myself. I will forever remember the chapter with the kidnapped gorilla...the debut of Lisa Simpson's voicer!

If you write MN fic, I will read it. I am that scary.

Oh, so that IS the trash can episode!!! The only other thing I remember about it is Pat and George in golf clothes.
