What are the practical ramifications of this?

Unrelatedly, this was the only icon that I felt would not be unintentionally insulting in some way. Sometimes I think I think too much.

I'm fascinated by the idea, but I doubt that there will be practical ramifications at all.

I'm vacillating between "no practical ramifications", "decrease in quality of life" (though that might not be likely, I don't know much about their current quality of life), and "extremely negative ramifications".

What do you think would be the "extremely negative ramifications"?

I don't have anything specific in mind. I just think it is possible that the U.S. will have difficulty tolerating a separate sovereign nation within their borders. I don't know what the government would try to do to stop it, exactly, it just seems possible they would try something.
