My bills, thank God, are now in order. It took most of the day. This is what happens when I feel overly responsible with regard to homework: I neglect hygiene, cooking, laundry, and bills. I'm sure I'd be less annoyed about having spent the whole day (minus time spent at assorted fun activities) thus far on bills if I had the time to do so. One major long research paper and one short crappy paper to write; one irritating 10 page paper to finalize. I would feel like I was seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel, if I didn't suspect that, when I finally hit the end of the race on December 17, I will cross the finish line only to realize that I have accidentally traversed half of the marathon via hot air balloon, and have therefore been disqualified.

Don't ask me why I seem to think marathons are held in tunnels.

I have an extremely tiny list entitled: "Ways You Know You're in a Social Work Environment", which you may or may not know about. I have discovered another point for my list! This means I now have a total of THREE ways to know you're in a social work environment. (Hey, we social workers are tricky. We camouflage well. Though you might be able to smoke most of us out by, I don't know, making racist comments or insulting the concept of welfare or something.)

*clears throat* Without further ado, I present:

You Know You're in a Social Work Environment When....

1) All of your teachers say they want the classroom to be a safe environment.
2) When someone sneezes, at least five people whisper "God bless you!" It's always "God bless you", by the way. Never "Gezunteit". (My apologies for misspelling that last.)
3) At moments of crisis, you hear yourself saying to clients, relatives, friends, and acquaintances, "This too shall pass."*

And, for [profile] lynnoxford, a quiz-meme.
Cut for everyone else. Although it's a What Classic Work of Literature Are You quiz with fun choices. )

*For the record, I don't actually remember saying this myself. (Nor is it a bad thing when other people do.) Mainly, I keep hearing other social workers, most of whom have never ever met each other and operate in wildly disparate environments, using it.
